Requirements: Coventry Transport Museum had been heavily affected by erosion and some general wear and tear. Several aspects of the museum needed to be replaced or renovated.
- Copying the original stones (Red Hollington Stone), we rebuilt and replaced the original bell tower that had been worn down by erosion.
- The museum’s chimney had also been worn through natural erosion and needed to rebuilt with Red Hollington Stone.
- The largest part of this project was renovating the 7m x 5m tracery window. This meant templating, then building the new window and finally fitting it. Everything was recreated by us in our Northampton workshop, including all inner and outer arches, hood moulds, arch stones, copings and apex stones.
Result: The museum had a brand new chimney, bell tower and feature tracery window, all matched with the original stone. The work on this project was so extensive that we have been nominated for *** award.
